Bret Thomas Shuckerow, 49, of Berlin and formerly of East Hartford, passed peacefully on Sunday, May 26, 2024 with people he loved by his side. Born in Hartford on October 2, 1974, a son of Kenneth A. and Gail A. (Thomas) Shuckerow, he had been a resident of East Hartford for over 30 years prior to moving to Berlin five years ago. Bret was a graduate of Windsor High School class of 1994, and had been a Volunteer Fireman for the Wilson Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was employed by Safe Home Security in Middletown for over 25 years, most recently as an IT Manager.
Bret was an animal lover, especially of dogs. He loved his rescued dogs and the joy that they brought him. An overall sports enthusiast, Bret was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Boston Red Sox, along with being an avid fan of bowling and Jai alai. He also enjoyed swimming and was a former member of the Windsor Water Rats swim team.
In addition to his beloved parents Kenny and Gail of East Hartford, Bret is survived by his fiancée Rachel C. Tatro of Berlin with whom he made his home; his loving godmother, Jeanne Weseliza of Enfield; his best friend, Rick Thibeault of Plainville; his pet dog, Kallie; many aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers, and dear friends.
Bret’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday afternoon (June 4th) from 2 – 5 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. A service celebrating Bret’s life will follow at 5 pm at the funeral home chapel. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
