Barbara E. “Bobbie” (Stone) Dresser, 97, of East Hartford, wife of 46 years of the late Gardner H. Dresser, peacefully passed away with her daughter by her side on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Born in Hartford on April 5, 1926, a daughter of the late Harry A. and Mildred E. (Cooke) Stone, she had been a resident of South Glastonbury for most of her life prior to moving to East Hartford fifteen years ago. She was a graduate of Bulkeley High School in Hartford, class of 1944 and later in life earned her Associates Degree from Manchester Community College.
A woman of strong faith, Barbara was a longtime member of the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury. She was very involved and active member of the Daughters of American Revolution-Eunice Cobb Stocking Chapter in Glastonbury. She was an avid reader, talented painter of theorem paintings, and also enjoyed needle crafts. She loved traveling and spending time at her cottage at Laurel Lake in Fitzwilliam, NH where she was active with their Garden Club. Most of all, she cherished her time as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Barbara is survived by her two beloved daughters, Deborah “Debbie” McNamara of East Hartford, Hannah D. Minietti and her husband Peter of Glastonbury; a sister, Roberta North of Richmond, VA; two special grandchildren, Jillian E. McNamara of Wethersfield, Patrick J. McNamara and his wife Caitlin of Manchester; five adored great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Harry A. Stone, Jr. of Tolland.
Honoring Barbara’s wishes, private funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barbara’s name may be made to the Laurel Lake Association, P.O. Box 352, Fitzwilliam, NH 03447.
