Al was born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 4, 1932 to Eva Rose Usanis of South Windsor, and William Urbates of Lithuania. Al grew up in East Hartford, and Glastonbury, and settled into the south end of Hartford with the love of his life, the late Jane Ann Livingston for over 35 years.
Al was a Korean War veteran and laborer for much of his life in Hartford and Newington. He worked for Bakmazian and Sons, Inc. in Newington as an aerospace machinist for many years before retiring to East Hartford.
Al was known for his tremendous kindness, sharp, no filter wit, and social spirit by his family and neighbors. He will be fondly remembered for his daily walks to Dunkin Donuts, chats with the local business owners in the neighborhood to discuss politics and world events, eating whole belly clams, and playing his scratch lottery tickets. Most especially, you would see a twinkle in his eye after a visit to Granny's Pie Factory for his favorite chocolate cream pie. His smile will forever live in our hearts as we remember how he described the taste of the chocolate pudding pie so eloquently.
A beloved father, Albert is survived by his dearest daughter Kathleen J. Urbates of Phoenix, AZ, and his sister Ruth Lindberg and her husband Frank of Glastonbury, along with several nieces and nephews throughout CT, and Florida. He was predeceased a brother, Edward D. Olson of Sidney, NY.
Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Rye Street, Broad Brook. Relatives and friends may gather before the service on Friday morning from 10-11 am at the funeral home chapel. For on-line expressions of sympathy to Al’s family, please visit www.desopoeh.com.
