May 17, 1925- October 12, 2024
Of East Aurora, NY, and Fort Myers, FL., passed away at the Larsen Health Center at Shell Point at age 99. Son of the late Norman and Julia Handel. Beloved husband of the late Suzanne (nee Haun); father of Suzanne (Robb) Mair and Caroline Handel; grandfather of Bradley (Allison) Mair and Michelle (Andrew) Martin; great-grandfather of Greyson Mair, John Martin, and Anna Martin; brother of the late Cleora Kalle Handel Keeley; survived by nieces and nephews.
John was very proud of the time he spent living in East Elma, also known as Frog Pond. He spent summers working on his Uncle Joe’s farm and going to the city markets to sell the produce. He lived on Dartmouth Street in Buffalo and graduated from Kensington High School. John performed his undergraduate work at The University of Buffalo, graduating in 1948. He then entered UB Medical School, graduating in 1952. John soon entered the Army and served a period in Fort Gordon, Augusta, Georgia. After leaving the military he set up practice on East Main Street in East Aurora. He was a general practitioner specializing in allergies and internal medicine. He slowly retired from practice in the mid-90s. He was also the doctor that ran the clinic at the student center at UB. He and Suzanne loved to travel, taking train trips across the US, and visiting countries in every corner of the world.
While John Handel was respected by those he cared for as patients and worked with throughout his life, he was loved most by his family, whom he never stopped providing for and watching over.
Private Services were held by the immediate family. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army.
