Leon was born January 18, 1937 in Morgan’s Point, Texas the son of William (Bill) Putnam and Mae Dell (Malone) Moody. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Lonnie Ray Moody and a sister Linda Mae Groover and a best friend, Jerry Tyndall.
Leon served in the United States Air Force, worked for Brown and Root Marine Operators, Harris County Tax Office in Houston, Texas and was a long haul truck driver. He was a Mason (in Texas and North Carolina).
He was a member of James B. Green Lodge 735 in Raleigh; the Houston Council No. 1, R. & S.M.; and the Washington Chapter 2, R.A.M. in Houston, Texas. In 2018, he received a 50 year pin from each organization honoring his 50 years of membership. He was also a member of the Ruthven Commandery No 2 Knights Templar in Houston.
Leon was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was loved by many friends who knew him as a giving and hardworking man with a wonderful sense of humor. He would do anything to lend a hand to those who needed him. He was a true friend to all.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019 at the Coats Community Church in Coats.
He was survived by: His wife of 41 years, Wanda Stone Moody of the home. Sons: Leon Moody, Jr. (Melissa) and Bryan Moody (Sandy) of Houston, Texas; William Franklin Grimes (Darla) of Saint George, S.C. and Keith Wayne Grimes of Southport, NC; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mother-in-Law: Iva Wood Stone of Coats, NC
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Coats Community Church, one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the hospital staff, and the many friends and family who have shown love and support during this time of grief.
