Mr. Sherwood Edward Avery, age 78, of Raymond Avery Rd., Erwin died Monday morning, July 11, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Avery was born October 4, 1937 in Harnett County the son of the late Raymond Edward Avery & Vernell Dennis Avery and is preceded in death his brother Leon Avery. Mr. Avery served his country in the U. S. Air Force then worked for Burlington/Erwin Mills as a training coordinator. He later worked with The Pantry Corporation as a lead auditor prior to retiring. After retirement he enjoyed working part time with “Just Ask” Rental Company, in Dunn He loved and cherished his wife Mildred who he referred to as “His Mildred.” His love for his family will never be forgotten and the joy his children and grandchildren brought him will leave a lasting impression in their hearts. Many friends and family members will remember his passion primarily for deer hunting but he also enjoyed turkey hunting, fishing and spending time in the mountains. A Celebration of Sherwood’s Life will be held Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Cromartie Miller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerome Pope & Rev. Tim Cowan officiating. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens Memorial Park. He is survived by: His wife: Mildred Dorman Avery of the home. His Sons: Trent E. Avery & (wife) Jana of Quinton, VA Oliver W. Avery & (wife) Beverly of Erwin, NC His Brothers: Norman Avery & (wife) Sandra of Erwin, NC Keith Avery & (wife) Felice of Winston-Salem, NC Grandson: Carl Edward Avery & Step-Grandsons: Troy Carter & Chasen Carter The family will receive friends Wednesday Evening, July 13, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home.
