Junnie Edgar Mason, 82 of Linden, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He was born February 15, 1936 in Cumberland County, North Carolina to the late Bon Mason and the late Lula Hair Mason Keeton. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Lillian Louise Mason; two daughters: Tammy Hammond and Rose Jones; one son Curtis Mason and several brothers and sisters.
Junnie had enjoyed the outdoors immensely, he liked to squirrel hunt, coon hunt and go fishing. You could say he was happiest when he was outside. He didn’t like to sit still for long, his career as a truck driver reflected that. His hands could have told a million stories as he was always using them to work on whatever was broken and sometimes what wasn’t, just because he loved to piddle. He particularly enjoyed working on and restoring old tractors and lawn mowers. He was known for raising a large garden that always yielded plenty for his family to eat, he had also farmed. Everyone who knew him would tell you he was something else when it came to grilling on his grill or making his famous homemade grape jelly. Junnie loved being in the country, the animals, the beauty of nature and the simplicity of a southern, small town life was plenty enough for him. He enjoyed watching old television shows such as Andy Griffith, Gun Smoke and Bonanza; but his favorite thing of all to watch was WWE wrestling. Earlier in life, he had been a body builder and he had also been both pitcher and hind catcher on a traveling softball team which he also coached. He loved to eat, among his favorite foods were fried chicken and homemade banana pudding. Some of his children’s fondest memories were having Easter in the woods back in a thicket and hunting their eggs and family beach trips, they had also played softball with their father. Junnie was a honest man, one who was respected and loved; and one who will not be forgotten.
Junnie leaves behind to cherish his memory his three sons: Mike Edgar Wade and wife Betty of Spring Lake, Horace Mason of Linden and Wayne Lee Mason and wife Lisa of Linden; one daughter: Vickie Mason of Linden; one brother: Richard Mason and wife Elizabeth of Linden; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.
