Condolences to The Grey family

Norm and I bartered our coaching services. Thanks to Norm, our business finally took off. Norm was one of the most kind, honest, persistent and honorable people I ever met. 

God bless you immensely Norm and May your soul Rest In Peace.

Dear Donna and family,
I was so very sorry to just hear of Norm's passing. It must have been a very difficult time for you all, as I know well of ALS, as another former colleague of mine who worked at the Bank of Canada, Tim Noel had the same condition and passed away some years ago at a young age.
I do remember well the years that Norm worked with me on the Canada Savings Bond Program at Bank of Canada. He always did such a fine job. We sponsored many luncheon meetings which Norm arranged at this great lunch club in St Catharine's! Norm was a very fine fellow who I depended on for that region of Ontario and I liked extremely well.
Donna I do remember you being a rep as well for many years, working along with us and I really appreciate that.
In those days, we had a great team- worked hard, accomplished a lot and always had fun!
I'll be 95 yrs old on April 8th and I appreciate more than ever knowing people such as yourself and Norm. I was actually thinking about Norm the other day at my farm on the Ottawa Valley and today I receive the notice from Bryan White.

Donna, I've tried several times now to write down some memories of Norm.....invariably things like "Credit Meetings"..."We can't have Swill".....and the like kept coming up.....But that's not really how I want to  finalize my memories of Norm....although his amazing wit and sense of humour were so much a part of him.   Such a fine, fine person and I was blessed to have had him....and you....as part of my life.  Please keep in touch....there is a group of us old birds....Ronda, Judy, myself etc....who like to get together periodically and share new times and old.  Would love for you to be a part of that.      Take care, my dear........I'll miss him but will always remember him so fondly......Laura 

My deepest sympathies go out to my friend Donna and the entire Grey family. The funeral service for Norm was truly inspiring.   Although I have never met Norm, one by one each speaker introduced me to an amazing person and his life. I wish there were more like him in our world. He will be missed by all who knew him.

My condolences go out to Donna, Rachel, Paul and the Grey families. I worked with Norm for about seven years as a fellow District Manager in Ontario South West Region. 
We had many great times together at conferences and meetings and gatherings at the home of Milt and Arlene MacLean.  I had the opportunity to travel Norm's District and visit many of his branches for two separate purposes and I can say that he was deeply liked and respected. 
Norm could be very serious at times but just like you throw a switch, he could hit you with one of his favorite sayings of which he had many. The one I remember most warmly was the "red herring" that was present in many of the items that appeared on our meeting agendas.

Norm was truly one of the good guys  Always a pleasure to be with  him  in work and play  He supported me through the worst time of my life when I lost my wife to cancer  He had been there too and understood my situation  He was my mentor at the regional office training me in all aspects of his job as GM OSW  He also introduced me to influential CIBC leaders.  As a result I was hired to replace him when he retired.  It changed my life and I will always be so grateful to him. Thank you Norm  My condolences to Donna and family.        Graham Hern

Norm was a man of deep belief. I knew him as a Christadelphian and I knew he grew up in that belief through his parents. But he made it his own belief and his certainty about God came from personal experience and wisdom. Though I knew of him since my early adult years I really got to know him much later in life. I spent time in his home with his beloved Donna. She always seemed like a perfect fit for him. He developed a keen sense of things that matter in the material world: wine and fine dining. I enjoyed his stories about wine making and magnetized water. Norm taught me things I didn't know that made my life richer. Norm made the world a better place. That is a living sermon for us all to follow or continue.

How very sad I am to hear of Norm's passing. He was a respected friend and mentor to many, including myself.  Norm was never one to talk about himself, he always asked about the other person; always respectful of others, and had a great sense of humor. I can remember inviting him to come to a seminar and he not only came to show his support, he stepped in at a moment's notice when the facilitator didn't show up. My sincere condolences to Donna, his children, other family member, and his friends for this loss.

Dear Donna, Rachel and Paul,

My heart goes out to all of you during this difficult time.
My uncle Norm has been a part of my life from my earliest memories. The "Grey's" were a fairly close family for many years sharing many occasions such as birthdays, Christmas get together's or even just visiting back and forth. I will always remember these with very fond memories particularly the long car trips out to Listowel for Christmas or new years during some challenging weather conditions.  
I always enjoyed Norm as a child, particularly his great sense of humor. He had a really good attribute of good natured teasing to "break the ice" with children. 
I remember Norm's house as a warm and hospitable place that was always welcoming. Those were the the younger years.
After moving to Australia obviously with distance I lost touch for many years with Norm and with Rachel and Paul until social media came along and communication became easier.
In 2012 I brought  my family to Canada on a holiday after 14 years away. It was this time and again in 2015 that I became re aquainted with Norm as an  adult. We stayed with Norm and Donna for a few days each time and both occasions I remember very fondly. Both times we spent many hours chatting well into the night on many topics and it seemed like the hours just flew by. I am now so grateful that Faith and I had that time to spend with Norm and Donna particularly in 2015 as this would be the last chance before he became ill.
Norm had a very deep and active faith in God and the hope of the gospel. He was a very active contributor in his group and could always be counted on to deliver. 
Norm will be missed but  but I am grateful that he no longer suffers.

"Your dead men shall live; together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in dust; for you dew is like the dew of herbs and the earth shall cast out the dead"


I, Dave, have known Norm all my life, being his first cousin and playmate as a youngster.  Kathy and I are his Brother and Sister in Christ, sharing his faith of a common hope of a future resurrection which, in God's mercy, promises the receipt of eternal life with spirit nature.  Norm devotedly studied the Bible and its teachings on the gospel of Jesus Christ, and from this study developed a strong faith that was so evident these last three challenging years of his life.  Norm drew great comfort from this hope of the resurrection, for he was convinced that in God's mercy, he would be raised to life again when Jesus returns to this earth as King, to bring peace to all nations.  Though Norm has passed away, he no longer suffers, but rests asleep awaiting the resurrection and the joy of new life with Christ as promised in the Bible.

"The coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.  For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God.  And the dead in Christ will rise first.  Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air."  (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17)

Norm was a good ambassador of the gospel of Jesus and his faith shaped his life.  His example lives on in the memories of those who knew and loved him, to cherish in our hearts always.

We are grateful for Sister Donna's unflagging support for Brother Norm.

Dear Donna, Rachel, and Paul,
Norm was a constant in my life, being my first cousin, and as adults, a brother in Christ to me.  Looking back, I see what a positive role model he was. 
There are happy memories of visiting the family farm, seeing Norm and his 2 brothers working hard at 'chores' with CHUM playing in the stables, to help the cows let down their milk.
Exploring Norm's library upstairs and bringing home a load of Zane Grey westerns to read.  
As a young adult, Norm would drive my sister Kathy and I back to Toronto on Sunday night, after being home for the weekend. 
Norm was a mainstay in our faith group, reliable and encouraging, through many of the ups and downs of life.
I will miss Norm, but the faith that we both shared brings comfort. 
Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labour, for their deeds will follow them." Revelation 14:13

I have so many fond memories of my uncle Norm. I will always remember him as a very kind, warm person with a sense of humour. During my years at university of Guelph the Grey family would often pick me up for a ride to meeting on Sundays. Sometimes I would spend time with them at their home in Listowel. Norm would go out of his way to take me back to Guelph after the visit - about a 2 hour journey there and back.

When I knew Norm, before moving to BC,  he was a relatively young man.  However, despite his putative youth, he was a wonderful person; I was only 4 years his junior, but he helped me get a job in the managerial program with CIBC - he was already a rising star in the bank.  Fortunately for me (and, perhaps, the bank), I quickly learned that banking was not my forté.  He didn't hold my banking shortcomings against me and he always showed a ready smile, and a quick wit; the thing I remember most is his joy in and love of his family and his faith.  Norm holds an unassailable place in my memory.  I'm sorry I never had the chance to meet you, Donna, or his children, but I would like to express my sincerest sympathy and condolences at this sad time.  

I met Norm and worked closely with him during our relatively brief time together at the  Business Advisory Group.  I was always impressed with his energy, optimism  and sense of humour at all times, even when visiting him in the hospital. I recall a thoroughly enjoyable lunch we had together shortly before he fell ill and it makes me wish I'd known him longer.  

Many years ago, Norm entertained a young British couple over lunch at the beautiful home he and Donna shared. Such a gregarious, witty and welcoming host, he has left me unable to say the phrase 'white merlot' ever since without trying to imitate that bouncy Ontario accent!
What a lovely man with true fighting spirit and such a great example of faith in action.

Worked with Norm  over many years at CIBC.  Never came across an individual who was as quick witted, calm, confident and willing to help.   Norm was a good listener always able to provide support and had some the most humorous sayings and "come backs" I have ever heard.  Rest in peace Norm.


I was so very fortunate to have had many years working with Norm in District Office.  He was a fabulous friend, boss, colleague and we shared many great times in the District with Norm as our leader!  I am very sad to hear this news however relieved that he no longer has to suffer.  Such a kind soul he was.  RIP Norm.  My thoughts go to Donna, Rachel, Paul and families at this difficult time.  I will treasure great memories of a great man! 

I knew Norm for over 30 years, as our CIBC careers crisscrossed over a number of Regions. I remember his integrity, his energy, his strength of conviction and his dedication to CIBC. After leaving CIBC, Norm invited me to "hoist a jar" in Burlington one Friday afternoon. That's when I learned he was working with CYBF in Toronto, recruiting Mentors for young people looking to get into the business world - and guess who was on his list of recruits! Norm could be very persuasive and I succumbed to his charm. He even persuaded me to buy lunch! Over the next couple of years, I mentored a number of young people Norm thought would be a match and came to realize the importance of mentoring  to the CYBF mission.  We kept in touch over the years and when Norm became ill and was hospitalized for extended periods, I would visit him. I soon learned that, while he was the one who was ill, he was more interested in what was going on in my life and that of his many friends from CIBC. As his condition deteriorated and he could no longer communicate, visiting became more difficult but you could see his eyes light up when a visitor arrived - Norm was still in there. He fought a valiant battle against this terrible disease. His suffering is now over and he is at peace. Norm, there will always be a place in my heart for you.

I (Milt) have had the pleasure of working with Norm as a CIBC Colleague for decades. Norm was a hard working effective man combined with the highest personal standards and a caring for others. Norm committed many hours for many years  for betterment of People - and also organizations. He will be missed in many ways. Norm faced perhaps more than his share of personal tragedies - but he met his challenges with respect and dignity. Finally, Norm had a good sense of humor and that was combined with a quiet confidence . Arlene joins me in extending to Donna, Rachel, Paul - and Families our condolences on Norm's passing. His suffering is over. 

I am very sorry for your loss. 

 I first met Norm in 1990 after I just graduated from university and was transferred to the Dundalk branch which was in Norm's district.  Norm was a tremendous mentor, leader and friend to me during my career with CIBC. Norm always had some great phrases and idioms - many of which I still remember and use myself now! He would always say "don't through the baby out with the bath water" or if we shared a glass of wine or a dinner, he would say "well that was rather civilized don't you think" Norm was a fair and honest man that cared about the people he was surrounded by. We had some great times with Norm as our leader, he was passionate about the bank, but he was dedicated and devoted to his family.  

I hope that your many memories you have provide you with comfort during this difficult time.

I am sorry and saddened to note the passing of Norm and I wish to convey
my condolences to his wife and to his family.  I hadn't known Norm for long
But I remember him as a gentleman and a giver of his talents to so many organizations. We were both members and colleagues with the Business 
Advisory Group providing consulting services to Small Business.
