It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Russell Douglas Gasse in his 72nd year on September 17th, 2022. Beloved husband of forty one years to Mona the love of his life, father to Stefanie, Danielle (Mike), papa to Lexxi, sister to Linda, uncle to many nieces and nephews, and friend and family to too many people to count! Russ was surrounded by his loving family and friends when he lost his courageous battle with cancer.
Rusty, as he was known by most, worked at Dofasco for over thirty years where he met many lifelong friends. He was the guy that would talk to anyone, anytime about anything; something that stayed with him until his final days. He enjoyed his years of retirement with his family and friends and was able to enjoy world travels with his wife. Russ loved his time with the boys fishing and on the ice rink as goalie. His ultimate joy in life was seeing the success of his daughters and spending time with his granddaughter.
Rusty had a love and passion for music, something that began in childhood and lasted throughout his lifetime. Anyone that knew Russ knew he could talk for hours about his jazz and blues bands. Russ would surprise those he loved with mix tapes and CD's catered to the music of their liking; it was something that was expected for any celebration.
While his time on earth was cut short his memory will continue to live on in those who knew him well and through the music he shared with all. Great thanks to the staff of C3 at the Juravinski Hospital for your care and compassion. A special thanks to nurses Tracey and Tamika, Dr. Lhaslo, Ashley and Jess.
Cremation has taken place. We invite family and friends to celebrate his life at Marlatt Funeral Home “Swackhamer Chapel”, 195 King Street West, Dundas, on Monday, September 26th from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m..
