Pat was born into an aviation family and her father owned a small airport on the outskirts of Washington DC. The love of flying stayed with her all of her life and she became a pilot in her early 30’s. She flew many types of airplanes including float planes. She participated in a woman pilot organization founded by Amelia Earhart called the “Ninety-Nines” and flew many charitable flights for the American Cancer Society, one of which was the annual “Daffodil Flight” for breast cancer awareness. She was a fearless and skilled pilot. Pat also loved to downhill ski and learned at the age of 40. She became an avid skier and took many trips to Vail, Colorado. She was also a ski instructor at Spirit Mountain for many years, of which she was still on the slopes at the age of 80.
She met her Marine Corp husband of 62 years while working in a library in Arlington, VA. It was love at first sight and when Coke showed up every day to see her she put him to work checking out books.
Pat and Coke led a full and adventurous life; traveling to Alaska and Canada for many fishing and guide trips. They participated in many “fly-ins” all over the country. Wildlife and the surrounding woods near their home brought them much enjoyment. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Proctor. She will be missed by many.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Benn and William Benn; brother-in-law, Bud (Carol) Emberg, and sister-in-law, Joyce (Marvin) Brenna.
