Mary was born and raised in Duluth and graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1951. On January 17, 1953 she married the love of her life, Arnold Jacobson in Duluth. Much of their time together was spent traveling. Mary was especially fond of her time spent in Maui. In Maui, Mary loved searching for Humpback whales and her whale watching adventures often include her family. Together Mary and Arnold ran Jake’s Quality Tire Company and raised 3 children.
She enjoyed spending time with family, traveling in the motorhome, going to the Minnesota State Fair, where the cheese curds were a big hit; going on cruises, and playing slot machines. Along with Mary’s love for whale watching she was also very interested in loon watching. She spent a lot of time observing loons in the pontoon at the family cabin on Island Lake.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Marvel; and sister, Marjorie Nason.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 63 years, Arnold “Jake” Jacobson of Duluth; children, Beth Westman of Apple Valley, Mark (Susan Campbell) of Superior, Marty (Mike) Jackson of Proctor; grandchildren, Amy, Becky ,Brian (Chelsea), and Tom; and 1 great-grandchild, Ella.
Visitation: 1:00 until the 2:00 p.m. memorial service Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Jarvi Dowd Funeral Home, Duluth. Inurnment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
