Kathryn Esther Jarvi-Peterson

Kathryn Esther Jarvi-Peterson, 92, of Duluth, died Friday, April 12, 2013 at her home of Ecumen Lakeshore. She was born to Victor Frans and Laima Sophia (Kayra) Bjorkquist in Pori, Finland on August 12, 1920. She came to America in 1923 and later graduated from Hill City High School in 1939. She was very proud of becoming a US citizen in 1956.

Kathryn married William Harold Jarvi in 1942. She then married Raymond Adolph Peterson in 1981. Kathryn retired from the benefits and payroll department of the City of Duluth in 1983 after 14 years of employment. Prior to that she worked at numerous co-op stores; The Co-op Builder (newspaper) and Duluth Co-op Credit Union.

Kathryn loved flowers and took pride in her landscaped yard. She also enjoyed traveling, dancing, golf, bowling, Bridge, and cribbage.

She is preceded in death by husbands, William Jarvi in 1976 and Raymond Peterson in 1997; her parents; sister, Elizabeth Suomala; and brother, Viljo “Mike” Bjorkquist.

Kathryn is survived by her son, Robert (Patricia) Jarvi of Jacobson, MN; three grandsons, Michael (Lorri) of Superior, WI, William (Cynthia) of Shoreview, MN, and Timothy (Brandy Claussen) Jarvi of Zimmerman, MN; granddaughter, Debra (Frank) Lindberg of Pease, MN; great grandchildren, Taylor Platzer, Rachel Engstrom, Logan, Aubrie Kathryn, and Bennett Jarvi, and Kelsey and Danielle Lindberg; and friends, Helen Brown and Linda Jarvi. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The family would thank Essentia St. Mary’s Hospice and Ecumen Lakeshore for their special care.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Lakeshore’s Chapel, 4002 London Rd at 11 a.m. Visitation one hour prior at the chapel. Interment at Oneota Cemetery.
