

Jean was born and raised in Duluth and graduated from Central High School in 1959. Jean married the love of her life, Dale LeMay, in 1971. Jean was a teacher with the Duluth School District for 34 years. She taught second grade at Homecroft School for 33 years.
In her youth, Jean liked to ice skate, swim, and loved her dog Sandy. Jean and her parents traveled many times to Saskatchewan to visit family. She liked to play in her aunt’s country schoolhouse practicing for her future as a teacher.
Jean learned how to fly a plane, piloting by herself the day she and Dale were married. Later that day they set out in their small plane, flying across the country to visit her new sister and brother-in-law in Oregon.
Jean loved cooking, baking, homemaking, and being with her family. She also liked playing the piano and playing music with her daughter.
Jean loved new adventures, trying new things, traveling, and going for rides. With her family, she drove to Alaska, every part of Canada, and many states. Jean liked spending the winters with Dale in Tucson, Arizona.
Jean joined her husband and daughter in participating in shooting matches and working at the gun club. She also liked to go on bike rides with her husband, daughter, and sometimes other friends.
Jean loved meeting people, making friends, and meeting dogs on her outings with her daughter. She especially enjoyed visiting the Rose Garden and Enger Tower.
She loved planning, tending, and enjoying her beautiful flower gardens. She collected gnomes both in her garden and in her home.
She found a new hobby in scrapbooking this year and spent many happy hours creating beautiful pages with the people she loved.
She also loved playing games, especially Yahtzee and was known as the Yahtzee Queen. One of her other nicknames was the Bluebird of Happiness.
Jean wanted to help people and she did by making a positive impact in many people’s lives through her kindness, courage, love, generosity, and her sparkling, happy personality.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Dale; parents, Carl and Mildred Sundholm; a special aunt, Edie; nephew, Jimmy Jeppesen; and brother-in-law, Jim Jeppesen.
Jean was a loving, special, and beautiful person. Jean will be greatly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Scott Ostern of Saginaw; sister-in-law, Marj (Chuck Dame) Jeppesen; niece, Lori (Lyle) Wilcox; and her many friends.
