Gordy was born October 14, 1948 in Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
He attended and graduated from Denfeld High School in Duluth in 1967. In May of 1968 Gordy entered the United States Marines Corps and served his country as a Corporal in the Viet Nam conflict receiving multiple medals. He received an honorable discharge in February of 1970 and was placed in IRR, Individual Ready Reserve, until his enlistment ended. When he got out of the service he was employed as a local freight truck driver. He also worked for the Duluth Transit Authority driving buses. On March 25, 1972 he married Carol Suojanen at the Lutheran Church of Holy Trinity in Duluth. Gordy loved music, playing pool, and would sing karaoke every chance he got. Family and friends meant the world to him.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carol; his mother Cora Shamka; brother William (Billy) Berg; and brother-in-law Jim Suojanen.
Gordy is survived by his daughter Tawnya Wedin; son Gordon William Wedin both of Duluth; two grandsons; three sisters Norma (James) Waller of Duluth; Lynn Roehl of Cloquet; Brenda Bougie of Surprise, Arizona; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 1 pm until the 2 pm Funeral Service on Tuesday, April 8th at Bell Brothers Funeral Home, 601 N. 56th Ave. W., Duluth with Ron Rodriguez speaking. Military Honors will be done by the Duluth Honor Guard. Interment will be at Oneota Cemetery.
