Florence was born on February 26, 1926 to William and Clara Ion in Duluth. She grew up in Norton Park and, after marrying Robert L. Rossley, moved to what became her lifelong home. Florence spent the last months of her life living with her son, Jerry and his partner, Malisa. She was a graduate of Denfeld High School and retired from the Duluth News Tribune after 25 years of service.
Florence was an avid reader and knitter, donating an annual contribution of hats and mittens to Asbury United Methodist Church for their annual bazaar. Summers were spent at the beloved family cabin at Briar Lake surrounded by family and friends. She fine-tuned the art of estate sales, had making spritz cookies down to a science, could clean a stainless steal sink the “proper way”, beat anyone in a game of double solitaire and always had time for a cup of tea with a loved one.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; brothers, Bill, Jim, Tom, Bob, and George Ion.
Florence is survived by her children, Peggy (Steve) Fecker of Grand Rapids, Robert “Charlie” Rossley of Minneapolis, Gerald “Jerry” (Malisa Olsen) Rossley of Duluth, and Chris Rossley of St. Paul, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Gerry Nolin, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Mom will be remembered for her laughter, smiles, and all that she taught us. Her recipe box will live on.
