Philip Lueck Krug

Philip Lueck Krug, 94, died in Dublin, Ohio on December 06, 2023. He was born in Cloquet, Minnesota on November 27, 1929 to the late Reverend Werner Krug and Elfrieda (Lueck) Krug. Philip served as a Lieutenant, Junior Grade, in the U.S. Navy from October 1952 – October 1954. He graduated from Purdue University (Indiana) in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1954, and a graduate in Business Administration at Case Institute of Technology (Cleveland). He was a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and Ohio. After school he spent his entire 38-year career (1954-1992) at the Lubrizol Corporation (Wickliffe, Ohio), beginning as a project engineer and retiring as the company’s Executive Vice President in 1992. During his career he also served as a director for Bank One in Cleveland (1985-1994), Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. (1987-1990), OEM/Miller (1988-1995) and Beckett Enterprises, Inc. (1993-1999).

Philip was active at church and other organizations. He took part in volunteer and leadership opportunities at Zion Lutheran Church, Painesville, Ohio; Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church, Scottsdale, Arizona; Atonement Lutheran Church, Columbus, Ohio; Painesville Rotary Club, President, Director; and YMCA of Painesville, Ohio. His community involvement was extensive and included Northeast Ohio Boy Scout Council, President; Lake County YMCA, Chair Development Committee; Lake County United Way, Director; Lake/Geauga Distribution Com of Cleveland Foundation; Ohio District – LCMS Foundation, Chairman; Ohio Manufactures Association, Chairman; Zion Lutheran Church Painesville, President, Elder; Lake Erie College, Search Committee; and Purdue University, Campaign Committee and ChemE Ambassador.

Dad’s life, his love of family and his impact and influence on those he knew and who knew him was primarily driven by his Christian faith and unwavering knowledge of his salvation through Jesus Christ. With that as a foundation he lived his life as a good servant, a loving and caring husband to Mom, and an incredibly strong father and family leader, provider. He was such a good planner we’d usually hit our end-of-day vacation destinations within the quarter hour, driving.

I can’t ever remember seeing Dad “scared” of anything. Concerned, yes. Disappointed at times, certainly. But not scared. Through his life’s challenges (there were many) and blessings (many more) Dad would hold to an almost childlike outlook that emphasized optimism and a “press on regardless” attitude. He was part cowboy-poet, part missionary, and part corporate whiz. To have had Dad in your life was to have a true friend and a trustworthy partner. To have had him as “Dad” is a blessing I’ll not ever fully realize.

In Dad’s words from a 2016 Christmas letter:

I sit here listening to Denver’s classical radio station playing beautiful but unfamiliar music. That seems to sum up my experience with life. Life has been good to me as long as I follow my Lord and don’t look back. It’s like driving in New York: signal your intention but never look back, keep looking ahead for the next moment of a guided life. May the Lord continue to guide my ways and grant you His peace.

Philip will be missed by his family who survive him, including, sons, Geoffrey Krug of Columbus, Ohio and Douglas (Kelly) Krug of Fair Oaks, California.; daughters, Kathryn (Arthur) Lindrose of Painesville, Ohio, and Victoria (Jason) Burita of Arnold, California; grandchildren, Kristie Krug, Geoffrey (Luisa) Krug, Philip (Teresa) Murphy, Ben Krug, Sam Krug, Evelyn Lindrose, Anna Lindrose, Ian, Eliot and Broderick Burita; and great-grandchildren, Allison Melnik, Geoffrey and Ava Krug, Karla Castillo, and Callum Murphy.

Memorial service will be held on April 27 at 11AM followed by a celebration of Phil’s life, at Zion Lutheran Church, 580 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, OH.

Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery preceding the memorial service.
