Marvin Albert Neubig Sr was born on December 31, 1936, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Raymond and Eleanor Neubig. He passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his wife and children, on January 30, 2024 in Dublin, Ohio.
For 57 years, he was the loving husband of Barbara Lee Neubig. He was the devoted father of seven children: Marvin Neubig Jr., Sharon Neubig (deceased), Dianne (Dennis) Rider, Dean (Luiza) Neubig, Tammy (Michael) Dudley, Chris (Holly) Neubig, and Jennifer (Yousef) Nimer. Marvin will be deeply missed by his 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and step-brother John DeVore. He is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Eleanor; siblings Raymond Neubig Jr., Shirley Vesco, Norman Neubig Sr.; and daughter Sharon.
From 1957 to 1959 Marvin was a radio Communication Specialist in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Marvin worked at the Oregon State Hospital where One Flew Over the Cukoo’s Nest was filmed (he always loved to share that fun fact). Marvin was a graduate of The Ohio State University, where he earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. He remained a lifelong Buckeye fan until the very end, and passed down his love of Buckeye football to all of his children and grandchildren.
From 1973 – 1993 Marvin was a high school principal – first at McComb Local School District and then North Central Schools in Pioneer, Ohio. He was loved by students and teachers alike, who gave him the nickname “Marvelous Marv.” He always went above and beyond to pitch-in wherever needed, whether it be telling the joke of the day, playing guitar, driving a school bus, organizing a Russian exchange program, coaching sports, or taking his volleyball team toilet-papering and playing pranks on the other coaches!
Marvin was known for his warm heart, infectious laughter, and unrivaled sense of humor. Aside from being an avid Buckeye fan, Marvin loved camping, fishing, boating, or anything outdoors. His family and friends hold dear the cherished moments spent listening to him strumming his guitar and singing by the campfire, creating unforgettable memories that will be treasured by all who knew him.
A celebration of Marvin’s life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
