She was born in Dagus Mines, PA, the daughter of George J. and Julia (Smithbauer) Pfaff on March 6, 1920.
Margaret attended public school in Force and Weedville, PA. In 1941, she graduated as a nurse from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. She served as First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corp during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific theaters. Margaret was a Charter Member of the Women’s Memorial in Washington D.C.
She had been employed locally at the Maple Avenue Hospital and was the first nurse employed by the Health Center of the DuBois Campus of Penn State University. In 1947 she married Raymond Nelson, who preceded her in death on December 27, 2011. She and her husband, Raymond, had been the owners of Raymond Nelson Tree Nursery from 1950 to 1975.
Margaret was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of DuBois.
Margaret is survived by one brother, Gary Pfaff of DuBois, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews that loved her very much.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband, Raymond Nelson, two brothers, Donald Pfaff and Ralph Pfaff, and two sisters, Helen Gabor and Anna Jane Keane.
There will be no public visitation and burial will be private at Morningside Cemetery.
