Charles DeLong, Jr., 84, of DuBois, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at his home. A son of the late Charles E. DeLong and Mary Duttry DeLong, he was born November 30, 1927. He was married May 25, 1947, to Ann Crain DeLong who survives.
A 1946 graduate of DuBois High School, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Valley Forge aircraft carrier in the Pacific from 1946 to 1948. He was graduated from Indiana Technical College with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering in 1952. He worked for several manufacturing plants in the DuBois area including Rockwell Mfg., McDowell Mfg., Brockway Pressed Metals, and Symmco, retiring in 1996.
Chuck was a long-time member and elder at the DuBois Church of Christ. He will be remembered for his devotion to his faith and his family, and his love of his work, all-things mechanical, travelling, gardening, the outdoors and an occasional round of golf.
He is survived by five children—Nancy (Allan) Skinner, Thomas (Linda) DeLong, Robert DeLong, Stephen DeLong, and Lisa (Daniel) Cuneo—and ten grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Francis (Hazel) DeLong and William (Betty) DeLong. He was preceded in death by a brother, James DeLong.
Funeral services will be held at the Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel, Inc. on Friday, Febuary 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Minister Keith Newell officiating. Interment will be in Morningside Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and also on Friday from 10:00 AM until the hour of services.
Memorial donations may be made to The James Connection, 473 Woodland Hills Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15235, in support of Angels’ Place, a Christian orphanage in India.
