Mr. Richard Osborn Brown, Sr., 74, born April 12, 1942 in Knoxville, TN, died December 17, 2016; resident of Douglas County, Georgia since 1968. Mr. Brown was a proud American who began his career with the US Army in 1961 and continued for another 36 years in the telecommunications industry with Western Electric. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Order, Battle Hill Lodge 523, and an avid traveler who enjoyed seeing the country in his motorhome. Mr. Brown faithfully served as a member of his church where he served on numerous committees and as a deacon for many years. He loved his church family and enjoyed the numerous mission trips he served on.
Richard Brown was preceded in death by his mother and father Osborn H. & Mary Elizabeth Brown; survived by his wife of 51 years, Lyn Massey Brown; his son Richard (Rick) O. Brown, Jr and his wife Angela of Roswell, GA; his daughters Beckey Brown Hammond and husband John of Maple Grove, MN, and Kathy Brown Finley and husband Nathan of Flowery Branch, GA; also survived by grandchildren Jacob Lammie, Jessey Hammond, Elayna Hammond, Ryan Brown, and Kelsey Brown; sisters LaVelda Brown Lewis of Zionsville, IN and LaVonne Brown Prothero and husband Dale of New London, NH.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a great husband, loving father, and kind friend.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Rosehaven Chapel with Reverend Steve McFall officiating. He will be laid to rest at Georgia National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Richard requested donations be made in his name to the Vision2020 fund at Central Baptist Church, 5811 Central Church Rd., Douglasville, GA, 30135.
