She was born on March 14, 1949 in Waynesville, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Seldon Herald and the late Herma Sarah Fish Herald. Kathy worked for the Douglas County School Board for a number of years and at the time of her retirement she was working as school secretary at Arbor Station Elementary School. After her retirement, she was the caretaker for Sam Fite for over forty-two years. Kathy loved to cook southern style and family style, beans, cornbread and pound cake was her speciality. She was quite talented and artistic and had enjoyed painting many pictures. Her faith was very important to her, she taught the Smiley Class at her church and she had a servant’s heart. Kathy proved to be a wonderful caretaker and she had a heart for special needs.
Kathy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Wendie Latham Strange and Fred Strange, Jr., granddaughter and husband, Nicole France and Todd; grandsons, Colby Marshall and Gerred Strange, great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kelly, Cole, Brent, Seth, Khloee, Charlee and Kynlee; great great grandchild, Ansleigh.
In addition to her parents, Seldom and Herma Herald, Kathy is preceded in death by her sons, Kevin Taze Latham and Steve Marshall, granddaughter, Erika Strange, brother and sister Cecil Herald and Louise Herald.
The family will receive friends at Whitley Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 9:30 until 11:00.
The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m with Rev. Ikey Watson officiating and interment to follow in Rosehaven Cemetery.
