Mrs. Karen Slater Reid, age 63, of Douglasville, GA passed away November 13, 2016. Karen was born June 28, 1953 in Alexandria, VA to the late Patricia Itzig-Heine. Karen was very proud to be a Virginian because she represented the sixth generation from her family to be from Alexandria. She is survived by her loving and devoted spouse, Susan Reid; son, Kevin Slater; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jay and Betsy Smith, Tom and Pam Smith, and Tim Smith; sisters, Peggy and Jerry Jones and Robin and Robert Thompson; half-sister, Cindy Lee; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Karen had a big heart. She loved people and enjoyed being around everyone. She had a fabulous sense of humor. She found humor in everything and was never in a bad. She was a wonderful mother. She loved Susan with all of her heart and was devoted to her for sixteen years. She loved the beach, visiting Charleston, and loved to dance. Karen’s family will hold a dinner in Celebration of her Life in Atlanta and a Memorial Service in Alexandria after the holidays.
