Mr. Julius Thornton Smith, Jr., age 77, of Douglasville, GA passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017. He was born September 11, 1940 in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Smith loved working at International Harvester and did so for 51 years and 6 months. He also loved his coworkers. He was a hard worker and would not have retired except health issues arose. Smitty enjoyed roller coasters and traveling, especially to the mountains and the beach. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents Julius and Mabel Smith; his son Buddy Huggins and brother Byron Smith. He is survived by his wife Jurelle Smith; sons Julius T. (Carrie) Smith, III, and Ken (Raeliene) Smith; daughters Michelle (Paul) Warburton, Marlene (Stefan) Simmons and Judy Lee Swanson; sister Donna Cousins; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 4 until 7 o’clock pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 1 o’clock pm in the Rosehaven Chapel with Pastor Jim Grieme officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery.
