Mrs. Ionie Agatha Clarke, age 72, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. She was born in the district of Niagra in St. James, Jamaica, West Indies on January 24, 1949, to her parents, Vincent Watson and Pertina Wright who preceded her in death. Her granddaughter, Leneja Clarke, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Clarke was a prayer warrior; her whole life revolved around prayer. She had a very quiet, calm and humble disposition, who always had a prayer and an encouraging word for everyone who crossed her path. She was a mother to all, having many “adopted” children in addition to her own. When she spoke with you she gave her full attention and her whole heart. She was patient, understanding, loving, caring and selfless. You were always safe with her and she could make you feel like you mattered. A confidant who you could share any and everything with and rest at ease knowing that it will only be shared with the Lord.
While in Atlanta, she fellowshipped with Christ the Light Church – Pastor Afolake Mobolaji Olaleye and The Body of Christ Deliverance Temple – Pastor David Barnes. She was an active, committed and dedicated member of the Gospel Light Church, in New Jersey, where she served on the board of missionaries. Many people will testify of the tasty porridge and soup they received during their illness. A phone call from her was not to gossip, but to pray you through whatever situation faced you. She loved to sing, therefore there was no question as to her dedication and commitment to the choir.
Furthermore, Mrs. Clarke enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, and cooking in her spare time. She and her family loved to travel. There were many trips for anniversaries, birthdays, and family cruises. A nurturer at heart, she worked as a CNA for 23 years at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, New York. Her patients and co-workers were very near and dear to her and she enjoyed her career tremendously.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 48 years, Leaford G. Clarke; her children, Delroy English , Jacqueline McCarthy, Loil Clarke, Lenford Clarke, and Mario Clarke; son-in-law, John McCarthy; daughters in-law, Sharon English and Shree Hall; “adopted” daughters: Jennifer Bryan, Karen Walker, Marcia McGrath-Eni, Esther Cooper, Donna Pink and Thaisha Morris; her brother, Vincent Watson, Jr.; her grandchildren, Jesseca Newman, Jessica Clarke, Diodney, Clarke, Vanessa English, Delroy English, Jr., Devon Clarke, Devante Clarke, Jasmine McCarthy, Kayla Clarke, and Jennine McCarthy; her great-grandchildren, Genesis Rush, Jayden English, and Jaime Gelin; and a host of other loved ones, family, and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 3:00 pm with Pastor John McCarthy and Pastor Afolake Mobolaji Olaleye officiating.
