Stewart was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 26, 1965 the son of the late, James Warren Medlin, and Anne Stewart Medlin. Stewart grew up in Douglas County and played football for the Bill Arp Falcons, DC Tiger Cubs, and Douglas County High School. He graduated from Douglas County High School in 1983 and from the University of West Georgia in Carrollton with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology in March of 1996.
When Stew was ten years old, he dreamed of becoming a professional bass fisherman. At the time of his passing, he had accomplished that dream and was able to fish all over the world with his closer than a brother friend, Patrick. Stew also had a love for deer hunting. He always said “If the deer were in season, he was going to be in the woods and if the fish were biting, he was going to be on the lake.”
Stew was also a staple in the Atlanta restaurant and bar industry where he had owned and/or managed countless bars and restaurants in the downtown Atlanta area. At the time of his death, Stewart held two jobs, one as a fishing guide at Jimbo’s on Lake Lanier and the other as the bar manager for Gino’s NY Pizza Bar. Outside of fishing, hunting, family and friends, Stew’s other love was the Georgia Bulldogs. He was a true, diehard fan. Besides attending multiple SEC Championship games, Stew was blessed to go to a National Championship game to watch his beloved Dawgs. The best memory is Stewart going to a game, being on the sidelines, having a picture made with Hairy Dawg, and getting to meet, pet and have his picture made with UGA V.
Stewart adored his loving mother, was fiercely protective of his baby sister, and cherished his nephew – named after him, Logan Stewart. Stewart was a Christian of Baptist faith. He was baptized on March 17, 1974 at First Baptist Church of Douglasville and was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Douglasville since April 1994.
He is survived by his mother, Anne Stewart Medlin, sister and brother-in-law, Holly and Scott Ervine, nephew, Logan, Aunt Sue Pearson, cousin, Brad Pearson (Kara) and their children, Jason (Susannah) and Will, his lifetime best friend, Patrick Flanagan (Darcy) and their children, Hannah, Sophia, Zoe, Chloe and Rowan who all called him Uncle Stew.
In addition to his father, James Warren Medlin, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George Stewart, Henrietta Sink (Fred), paternal grandparents, Jesse Medlin, Henryetta Medlin and aunt, Edith Medlin.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and a drop-in “Celebration of Life” will be held at Hudson’s By the Lake, 6800 Cedar Mountain Road, Douglasville, Georgia 30134 on October 29, 2023, 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
