Anna Carolyn May Pugh, age, 70, of Douglasville, GA died at her home on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from fronto-temporal degeneration. She was born February 20, 1944 in Leesville, SC, the daughter of P.D. and Lillian Owens May.
Carolyn graduated from Batesburg-Leesville High School and Columbia College. She earned Master’s and Specialist’s degrees in Education from Georgia State University. She taught high school science, primarily chemistry, for 20 years at Riverdale High, Paulding County High and Hiram High School. Carolyn traveled the world with her husband sight-seeing and with science groups for sight-seeing and study. She loved to garden and was a member of the Town and Country Garden Club in Douglas County. She loved the Church and was an active member at Hapeville First, Jones Memorial and most recently Douglasville First United Methodist Church. In retirement, Carolyn was a weekly volunteer worker at the Pregnancy Resource Center in Douglasville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Harold David May.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, James William Pugh; her brother, P.D. (Shirley) May, Jr. of Roswell, GA; daughters, Meredith Claire (Oliver) de la Paz and Sarah Suzanne (Cynthia) Pugh of Oakland, CA; grandsons, Lucas, Nolan and Henry de la Paz
The family will receive friends at Douglasville First United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 5-7 PM with her funeral service following at 7:00 PM with Rev. John Pinson and Rev. Dr Scott Hughes officiating.
Interment will be Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Prosperity Cemetery, Prosperity, SC with Rev. James H. Counts officiating.
