James Andrew Ward

James A. Ward, “Jimmy”, passed away at his home in Webb, AL on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at 9:55 p.m. at the age of 60 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his wife, two daughters and son-in-law.

On Saturday, March 29, 2014 the family will receive visitors from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. with the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. at Byrd Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Phillip Rush, Mike Shirah, D. Min., Rev. Vann Cooley and Executive Pastor Charles Uptain. Graveside services will follow at Dothan City Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing.

Born June 12, 1953, in Montgomery, AL to James Monroe Ward and Gisele Davigou Ward, Jimmy graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, but was a resident of the wiregrass most of his life. An executive in steel fabrication companies throughout the southeast by profession, he was a master bow hunter and life-long outdoorsman by choice. He shot successfully in many professional archery competitions.

Jimmy played church league baseball and also coached youth softball, basketball, and soccer in the wiregrass over the years. He served faithfully in the music, drama, and youth ministries of Calvary Baptist Church Dothan, First Baptist Church Dothan, and Antioch Baptist Church in Shelby, AL.

Preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy is survived by his wife of 17 years Cindy Henderson Ward; daughters, Hope (Brandon) Shirah and Haley Ward; six grandchildren; sister and brother- in- law Margaret and John Downs and extended family of nieces and nephews.
