Ramona Fernandez George, a native and lifelong resident of Brusly St. Martin, passed away peacefully February 12, 2023 at Chateau DeVille Nursing Home in Donaldsonville. At the time of her passing, she was 77.
Ramona, affectionately known as Mona to family and friends, was the daughter of the late Freddie Fernandez and the late Denise Charlet Fernandez. She attended and graduated from National Beauty School in Baton Rouge and began a career as a Hair Stylist that would span for 22 years. She also worked as the office manager for Leroy Boudreaux, DDS for 8 years and with Fr. M. Jeffery Bayhi as the Vocational Secretary with the Diocese of Baton Rouge until her retirement in 2006.
Outside of her career, Mona gave of her time to her church and was a former Chairwoman of the Allons Manger Festival. Her faith and love of her church brought her on a pilgrimage to Rome and Medjugorje, a trip of a lifetime for her. Other pastimes that Mona enjoyed was going to the camp at Lake Verret, playing cards, and researching her family's genealogy. She leaves a legacy of faith and love to her family and will be missed dearly.
Those left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Bronson Himel and Baili George; her sister, Ruby Fernandez Bellina; and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Along with her parents, Mona was preceded in death by her son, Vincent Paul George; her brothers and sisters, Hayward Joseph Fernandez, Fred Joseph Fernandez, Vincent Fernandez, Valerie Fernandez Guillot, and Barbara Fernandez Falcon; and her nephews, Sam Bellina, Jr. and Thomas "Lil Tommy" Nickell, Jr.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Brusly St. Martin Catholic Church on Friday, February 17 from 9:00 am until the recitation of the Rosary at 10:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am with Fr. Jeff Bayhi as celebrant.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Chad Fernandez, Timmy Guillot, Bronson Himel, Jerome Fernandez, Tommy Nickell, Jordan Landry, Kevin Leblanc and Brent Mabile.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Chateau DeVille, especially Gabbie Landry, Lainey LeBouef and Stephanie Couch for their care and compassion shown to Mona.
