Clare Carolyn Blanchard

Clare Gautreau Blanchard entered eternal rest early in the morning of September 28, 2024. She was 91 years old. She was a lifelong resident of Donaldsonville and the fourth child of Adlar P. Gautreau and Rose Schexnayder Gautreau.

She is preceded by her parents and her four siblings: Alvin Gautreau, Maurice Gautreau, Sr., Ann Gautreau Blanchard and Raymond Gautreau.

Clare was married to Louis Brent Blanchard, Sr. in 1952 and together raised six children: Louis Brent Blanchard, Jr. (married to Vicki Acosta Blanchard), Cathy Blanchard Erie (married to Mark Erie), Karen Blanchard, Ginger Blanchard del Marmol (married to George del Marmol), Jeffrey Blanchard (married to Celia Naquin Blanchard) and Patrick Blanchard (married to Janis Sprayberry Blanchard).

Brent Blanchard predeceased her in 2003 after 51 years of marriage.

She also had four grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Martinique Blanchard Adams and her three children Bryant Adams, Avery Adams and Adaleigh Adams; Jeremy Blanchard and his son Jack Blanchard; Darce’ Geismar and her two children Luke and Abby Clare; and Lauren Folse.

Clare Blanchard was an intelligent, petite woman with a strong constitution. In the face of adversity, she stayed true to herself and found joy in the authentic gifts of life. Later in life she blessed us with a hidden, artistic talent for capturing scenes around her and from her childhood in beautiful paintings.

We will miss her dearly and are certain she heard “Well done,” as she returned Home. She took time in the evenings to speak directly to God. She explained, “That’s how I pray.”

Special thanks to Karen Blanchard and Jeffrey and Celia Blanchard for excelling in their care during her ongoing battle with Alzheimer’s. Thanks also to the caring staff of Amedisys and Chateau D’Ville.

A memorial visitation will take place on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Ourso Funeral Home in Donaldsonville. She will be interred at Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary, LA.
