Joseph R. "Papa Joe" Malinowski, 88, of Cape Coral, Fla., died Friday at North Shore Hospital, Manhasset, N.Y. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, the former Frances Macedonio, formerly of Oyster Bay, Long Island, N.Y.
Born in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late William and Laura Malinowski. A World War II Navy veteran, he served on the USS Tarawa and USS Elokomin. Joe was employed with Bethlehem Steel, Maryland, until he retired to Cape Coral. He was a member of St. Andrew Church and the 4th-Degree Knights of Columbus. As a member of VFW Post 8463, he received the Honor Flight. He was an avid fisherman, golfer and traveler.
Also surviving are his children, Rick Malinowski, Florida; Ben Malinowski, Baltimore; Mark Mancini, Glen Cove, N.Y.; Jesse and spouse, Sue Mancini, Greenville, N.C.; Thomas and spouse, Nancy Mancini, Huntington, N.Y.; Carol and spouse, Carmen Scrimalli, Dunmore; his many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by first wife, Hazel; and daughter, Robin.
Mass with military honors will be Saturday at 11 a.m., Immaculate Conception Church, Scranton. Interment, at the convenience of the family, Coral Ridge Cemetery, Florida.
