Ruth Martzen Clifton was born May 11, 1921, at the family farm south of Dinuba to Amalia Grasz Martzen and John George Martzen, who were German immigrants from Russia. Ruth was the sixth of their eight children and enjoyed being a part of a large and loving family.
Ruth was educated at Reedley College and Fresno State College; she taught in Dinuba, Orosi, and Sultana. She married Verne Clifton, a fellow teacher at Grand View School, on Christmas Day in 1947. They made beautiful music together for 62 years, before his passing. She is preceded in death by one grandson, Franklin Verne Clifton.
Ruth passed away on January 16th in Reedley at the age of 93. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, singing, painting, gardening, cooking, and writing poetry. She delighted in discovering new things about God's creation and wrote about its wonders.
Ruth was actively involved at the Dinuba First United Methodist Church.
She will be missed by all her children and their spouses, Rodney(Marian), Daphne(Jim McBride), Jon(Janice), and Karen(Ben Shaver), and her ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one great, great granddaughter.
Ruth was loved by many family and friends.
Graveside service at Smith Mountain Cemetery at 10 a.m. Sat. Jan. 24
followed by a memorial service at 11:30 at Dinuba First United Methodist Church
