Our “Butterfly” Patricia Kathleen Dew (Handspiker), age 77 of Petawawa Ont. passed away at the Annapolis Community Health Center peacefully after arriving home (Bear River) as her last request. Born in Digby, she was a daughter of the late Reginald and Annie Handspiker.
Pat worked in the United States for many years until she met her husband Sgt. Barry Dew. Pat and Barry were married for 34 years and after Pat and Barry retired, they were cleaners on the Army base for years. Pat and her husband, Barry were avid flea market buyers and sellers. Pat and Barry enjoyed their music especially the CD’s that Barry made with only the songs they enjoyed. She was an outstanding member of her Presbyterian Church in Petawawa, Ont., always there to help out anytime especially making her mother’s donuts for any occasion. Pat always looked forward to her trips home, her as the driver. She was a very social person who enjoyed socializing with her friends and especially her church. She will be truly missed by those who knew her.
Surviving are her sisters Carolyn (Robert) Wagner, Waldeck West; Wendy (Kevin) Winchester, Bear River; brothers Robert (Simone) Handspiker, Pembrooke, Ont. Merrill Handspiker, Lively, Ont;. Wayne (Ginny) Handspiker, Quispamsis, NB; Brian (Eva) Handspiker, Randwick, Australia, brother in laws Bob Payson and Michael Isles both of Bear River; and sister in law Kim Handspiker, Bear River; step daughter Rosalie Tugwood, Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory On.; stepson Franz Dew ,Kingston, On; many nieces nephews, step children and Lacy her cat. Besides her parents, Reginald and Annie Handspiker, she was predeceased by her husband Sgt. Barry Dew, sisters Judy Parker (Peter Parker) and Janet Isles, brothers Vernon, Peter Handspiker and sister in law Kay Handspiker (Brown).
