Jean Carroll (Patterson) Watkins - 80, Digby, Nova Scotia, passed away March 14, 2023. Born September 14, 1942, the daughter of the late Walter Owen and Phyllis Leona (Shaw) Patterson. She was a retired employee for D.B. Kenny Fisheries, Westport.
Jean loved spending time near, or on the ocean, walking and playing board/card games with family and friends. She was known to swear like a pirate if the game wasn't going in her favour. She was an avid Bingo player and known to have been a darn good dart player in her younger years with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 92, Freeport. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Freeport Fire Department. She was strong willed, opinionated and had zero patience for waiting. She rarely admitted when she was wrong and loved when she was right. You knew right away if she liked you or not, there was no grey area. She loved spending time with her family and friends immensely.
Jean is survived by children: Mary (Alan Height) and David Watkins, both of Freeport; Joy Watkins, Digby and Sheryl (Victor) Stanton, Deep Brook. Grandchildren: Stephanie Sollows (Scott Webster), Tiverton; Natalie Stanton (Andrew Kennedy) Falmouth; April Stanton (Mark Sabean), New Minas; Joseph "Joey" Stanton, Tiverton; Tesha Stanton, Central Grove; and Damien Stanton, Middleton. Great Grandchildren: Lauren, Hudson and Quinn Sollows; Matthew, Jorja and Quentin Bailey; Christean and Aidan Sabean and Peyton Kennedy. Sisters, Bernice (Ronnie) Llewellyn, Truro; Barbie (John) Spicer, Grand Manan, NB; and brother, Wilfred Patterson. Several nieces and nephews. Besides Jean's parents she was predeceased by her grandparents, James William and Janet (Warren) Patterson; Albert and Mary (Leithy) Shaw; sister Marian in infancy, ex-husband David E. R. Watkins and special friend Lester Thimot.
Jean's children/grandchildren would like to thank all who have helped their mother/ grandmother and themselves get through the last few difficult months. To name a few, Dr. Chris Murphy, Yarmouth; Dr. Ann Gordon, Kentville; Dr. McCormick, Digby ER; NP Courtney Highleyman; Paramedics; VON and Amanda, Palliative Care, you all went above and beyond your jobs to make mom feel special. She had the best of care from each and everyone of you. Big hugs to special "granddaughter" Tori; special "daughter" Wendy; family and numerous friends. No names mentioned because we don't want to miss anyone, but you know who you are. Mom loved you all!
