It is with profound sorrow and heartfelt love that we announce the passing of Lorie J. Arbour (née Brown), who departed this life on October 8, 2024, at the age of 81, surrounded by her cherished family in Dexter, Michigan. She was a wonderful wife and loving mother, grandmother, and sister, and a great friend to many.
Lorie was born on November 24, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the eldest child of Marjorie (née Hehr) and L. Neil Brown. Lorie, and her beloved younger sisters, Beth Fry (Fred), and Molly Howlett (Rick) were raised and lived a happy and laughter-filled life in Ohio, Connecticut and Michigan. Lorie graduated from Chagrin Falls High School in 1960 and subsequently attended Miami University and Hillsdale College.
On August 11, 1972, Lorie was united in marriage to the love of her life, Phil Arbour. Their marriage of 52 years stands as a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Together, they raised three children: Amanda (Jerry) Carlock, Michael (Ericka) Arbour, and Kate Arbour. Lorie was also a devoted and proud grandmother to five grandchildren: Jake, Ryan, and Griffin Arbour, and Payton and Avery Carlock.
Lorie's professional journey included significant contributions at Huron Valley National Bank in Ann Arbor, where she met Phil, who fondly remarked that Lorie “took a liking to him and put him on the world map.” She later worked at Sweepster in Dexter for 30 years, where she worked alongside some amazing colleagues, many of whom became lifelong friends, before retiring in 2013.
Lorie was renowned for her quick wit, her even quicker laugh, her passion for life, and her loving nature. Lorie’s family would suggest that the only things stronger than her spirit were her opinions (on many topics). She was funny, compassionate, and bold and dedicated her life to loving and taking care of her family. Lorie was a voracious reader, and was a lover of great books, long scrabble games and dinner parties filled with great food, great wine and even greater friends. Her devotion extended to her beloved dogs, Max and Penny. Lorie was also an exceptional cook, known for her extraordinary meals shared with family and friends. Her talent for hosting warm and special holiday dinners will be fondly remembered.
An avid traveler, Lorie explored the world, visiting Morocco, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Hawaii. She was an active member of the Dexter Garden Club, The Child Study Club, and the University of Michigan Music Society.
Lorie was preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Marjorie Brown. Her legacy of love, warmth, and laughter will continue to inspire and be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
In this time of sorrow, we find solace in the countless beautiful memories she has left behind. Lorie's spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Parkinson's Foundation, 5757 Waterford District Drive, Suite 310, Miami, FL 33126 (or www.parkinson.org). In lieu of a public memorial, a celebration of Lorie’s life will be planned for the spring of 2025.
