John was born in Detroit and grew up in Ypsilanti. He attended Ypsi High and worked for his mom sweeping floors at St. Joseph mercy hospital as a teenager. Later he worked for his uncle's catering truck business, then as a roofer, before working at Ford Motor company and retiring from the Wixom assembly plant after 44 years as a Ford employee.
John was married to Iris in 1958 when she was 16 and he was 19. He was a caring, wise, and charitable person who was always willing to look past people's faults to see the good in them. He was a great friend and unselfish person who helped other people too many times and in too many ways to count.
John loved his family and enjoyed many vacations with them in northern Michigan either camping or at the family cottage. John's grandchildren always knew how much he cared and he would go out of his way to see and support them in their various activities. He was an avid Detroit sports fan and loved Western movies. John loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting earlier in his life and cross country skiing until knee and hip troubles made that hard for him.
John always kept a positive outlook and played down any negatives in life. He fought back from sextuple open-heart bypass surgery in 2011 only to be struck down by cancer in 2012, but he managed to continue enjoying life throughout. His main concerns at the end of his life were less for himself and more on finishing things he felt were important for the family he would leave behind.
John was an easy man to look up to and he will be sorely missed.
