Melanie Renae Petoskey, age 48, passed away on October 14, 2019. She was born April 2, 1971 in Lansing, Michigan. Melanie grew up attending Wainwright Elementary School then moved to DeWitt, MI for middle school and high school. Friends and activities surrounded her throughout her life. She was a life-long waitress with an established clientele wherever she worked. Her longevity and professionalism made it possible to be rehired at any establishment she left. Her last job was at the DeWitt Flap Jack Restaurant the past 2 years. She was very grateful to Bud and Eleanor Watson and managers Jack Vancamp and Janet Valdevere of Flap Jack. Melanie was never unemployed. She made everyone feel comfortable, welcome and at ease. She loved to cook, socialize, and listen to music. If she loved you, she loved you forever and you always knew where you stood with her. She also enjoyed shopping at thrift stores, garage sales, decorating, coloring, watching TV, movies, and traveling.
No one's heart will be the same but she would want no one to worry. In the end, fighting cancer, she was fearless and determined to still garden and care for others even more than she ever had. Look to the sky and know she is at peace.
She was preceded in death by her father Joseph Douglas Petoskey; paternal grandparents Richard Davenport and JoeAnna Hoag; maternal grandfather Herman D. Heiden; uncle Gerald Heiden and special friend Jerry Ellis Moulder. She is survived by her special friend Chris Murray; grandmother Lydia Heiden; mother and step-father Rosemary and Irvin Pasch; sister Michelle Quesenberry; and aunt Karen (Larry) Kaleta, aunt Yvonne Heiden, cousins Jessica Draine and Mandie Schumacher. She also leaves behind friends too numerous to name but not forgotten who are appreciated more than words can express.
The family will receive visitors Thursday, October 17, from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt. Her Funeral Service will take place on Friday October 18 at 11:00am with visitation two hours prior at the funeral home.
