Mary Caroline Barnes

Mary Caroline Barnes passed away peacefully on July 27, 2011. She was born June 11, 1927 to John and Mary Metzger. Mary was a proud graduateof Holt High School, class of 1945 and retired from the DeWitt Public School System. For almost 64 years she was the loving “bride” of James Barnes, who survives her. A woman filled with love for all those around her, Mary cherished her family, neighbors, lunchroom pals (what fun we had!) and classmates. Mary was pre-deceased by her parents, brothers John, August and Frank Metzger; sisters Wilma Sawyer, Kay Kline and Elaine Seibold. Besides her loving husband, Mary is survived by her niece, Cheryl (Bill) Ballard, whom she loved like a daughter, sisters Loraine Metzger, Anna Mort and Angela Metzger; Marge and Bob Bartley, Onalee Barnes, many loving nieces, nephews, her beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren who always brought smiles to her face and her “4-legged pal” Murphy. She will live in our hearts and minds forever. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday,

August 1, 2011 at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, DeWitt Chapel with Pastor Jim Mort officiating. Visitation will begin at Noon. Contributions may be made to the Greater Lansing Food Bank, c/o NBD Commerce Bank, P.O. Box 16224, Lansing, MI 48901 in memory of Mrs. Barnes.
