Jeanne Adaire Wilcox

She was continually surrounded by those she loved and is survived by her children, Gary (Eddy) Wilcox, Barbara (Harold) Deines, and Ron (Dawn) Wilcox. Also, surviving are her extended family Brent (Linda) Newman, sister, Josephine (Richard) Huff and brother, Clinton Chadwell; brothers, Terry (Pat) Wing, Roger (Theresa) Wing; 12 grandchildren, Brent (Kim) Wilcox, Marci (John) Lancour, Tony, Mike, and Steve Pinkston, Greg (Karen) Deines, Geoff (Nicole) Deines, Andrew (Erica Lord) Deines, Christopher (Danielle) Deines, James Patrick (Leslie) Deines, Christopher (Michele) Berkimer, Missy (Brandon) Way; 19 Great Grandchildren; sister-in-law, Molly Ruble, brother-in-law, Wayne (Jackie) Wilcox, many nieces and nephews, and special friends, Sharon DeBar and Bob & Rose Sharp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Park R (Bob) Wilcox; parents, Clare H Wing and Evangeline B Chadwell; sister, Joyce Ross; brother, James Wing; and lifelong friends, Art and Jean Newman.

Jeanne worked as a teen car-hop at Light’s Restaurant when a handsome young man came in and ordered ice cream from her. She told her Mother that she’d met a boy that night and she had a feeling she was going to marry him one day. They married October 10, 1942, and spent over 69 years sharing life together. For over 50 years, they enjoyed their cottage in East Tawas, spending weekends and summers relaxing, fishing, and playing on the beach.

At the age of 17, she went to work for Consumers Power Company and worked for them over 37 years. In retirement, she earned her Adult High School Diploma from DeWitt High School and was a proud alumnus.

Jeanne was an awesome cook and her homemade apple pies, spaghetti dinners and caramel candy were family favorites! Jeanne & Bob enjoyed traveling in retirement and the last 20 years were spent in Arizona where she loved playing cards and bingo. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and spent many hours crocheting beautiful afghans for her family. Jeanne’s giving heart and beautiful smile will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral service at Gorsline Runciman DeWitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington St., Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. Visitation Monday from 4-8 p.m.

Burial will be at DeWitt Cemetery followed by a reception at the VFW Hall on US 27 in DeWitt.
