Janet was born in 1913, in the village of Sterling, MI to Delbert and Gertrude Scott. She grew up in Sterling and eventually met and married Walter Hertzler. They had two children, Mary Susan and David. Mary Susan passed away at age 5 in 1955; David currently lives in Freeland, MI. Walt passed away at age 55 in 1967.
Janet added joy to every occasion, whether it was hosting Thanksgiving, or renting a cabin on various Michigan lakes. Her love of family, friends, and togetherness was matched only by her love of animals, whether they be rescues from the Humane Society or strays on her front porch. Her smile and laughter were contagious, and often paired with telling stories about her son and husband. Janet enjoyed gardening, knitting sweaters for children, walking, and humming songs around the house. She loved spoiling her grandchildren. She loved hosting them for weekend sleepovers and making cookies. She was a devoted member of Okemos Community Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and delivering Meals on Wheels. She was truly a light in our lives, and will continue to fill us with optimism and warmth.
Janet was preceded in death by daughter, Mary Susan; husband, Walt; twin sister, Jean and nephew, Scott Allen.
She is survived by son, David Hertzler (Leanne), her grandchildren, Elizabeth Yost (Gardner) and Daniel Robinson (Kara). Also, nephew, Jack Allen (Sue) and nieces Janet Yenior (Orv) and Sally Allen (Carson Nietert)...and many cousins.
