Born on April 23, 1941, in Berlin Germany, to Hans and Elfriede Jacoby, his story began in a divided Germany during historical turmoil, which eventually led the family’s voyage to America, by way of Ellis Island. Upon starting all over in 1951 making a home in Chicago, IL with his family, Peter attended school while learning a new language; one that he would later master, as proof in his chosen trade.
While attending Lane Tech High School, Peter took up the trombone, played in the marching band and ultimately found the love of his life.
Sandy, the trombone and his affinity for travel would be his greatest loves, enduring throughout his entire life.
In high school, he worked various jobs to pay for Trade school to become a typesetter and proofreader, going on to become one of the few employees that lasted the duration of Pearson Typesetting Company (PTC), retiring after 45 years.
Active in the Lutheran church, Peter was very involved, served as an Elder and loved playing in the music ensemble during special services.
As a musician, Peter was one of the original members of the Mount Prospect Community Band, leading to a commitment spanning almost four decades. He felt so Blessed to have had the opportunity to travel with the band on several trips abroad to share his love of music.
Peter was well known for his infectious sense of humor and clever wit, adamant dedication to family, endless charm, continuous altruism, resolute integrity, and his unwavering faith in God. Most of the time you could catch Peter whistling any number of tunes with impeccable precision.
Throughout his lifetime, he consistently and selflessly donated to numerous charities and causes behind the scenes. Peter was a beloved and dedicated member of Schwaben Verein for over 50 years, The Berliner's Club, as well as participating in the local German community.
As a romantic and devoted husband, Peter celebrated 59 years of unconditional adoration with his devoted wife Sandy, in marriage.
Peter was the true definition of the term patriarch: always putting his family first and never ceasing to provide for them in every way he knew how. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his brother Jack, children Tom and wife Solie, Laura and husband Dale, Jonathan and wife Alicia, as well as nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Peter has reunited with five siblings, parents, grandchild Christian, and his eternal love Sandy- where the two are undoubtedly laughing, dancing and falling in love all over again.
A memorial service to celebrate Peter’s life will be held on March 9th, 12:00pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 100 School St., Mt. Prospect IL 60056. In honor of Peter’s spirit, we invite you to join us, not in mourning, but in laughter and sharing. Peter would want us to use this time to share stories and cherished memories of his rather amazing life. Let us remember and celebrate the wonderful life of Peter Jacoby, a man who will never be forgotten.
