David M Cantrell

David was the beloved husband for 61 years of the late Helen H. Cantrell; loving and devoted father of the late Catherine (late Taz) Witt and Barbara Cantrell; dear brother of the late Louise Cantrell and late Virgil Cantrell III; caring uncle of Iris (late Howard) Hensley, Amanda (Paul) Spence, and Alicia (Jeff) Schmidt, and many nieces and nephews.

David was a Georgia Tech alum, earned his master’s degree from Northwestern University and served in the Army. He began his career with Volkswagen as an accountant, becoming a treasurer/controller for Gateway Construction Company for more than 35 years before retiring. In his later years, David enjoyed his weekly steaks and martinis. Throughout his illnesses, he never lost his sense of humor and kindness towards others. David enjoyed photography, documenting his family vacations throughout the years, and was an animal lover, especially of cats and kittens. He was a devoted and supportive family man, with a generous spirit for all those he came in contact with. David was a gentle man, and a gentleman. He will be sorely missed my many.

Visitation for David will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 9:30 AM until time of service at 11:30 AM at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St. (corner of Northwest Hwy/Rt14 and Rand Rd.), Des Plaines, IL 60016. A graveside service will occur January 22, 2022 from 12:30pm to 1:00 PM Ridgewood Memorial Park, 9900 N Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines, IL 60016.
