A native of Beaumont, Woody had lived in DeQuincy since the age of 12. He served his country in the Navy during WWII and was retired from Oxydental as a machinist. After retirement, he served as a machinist instructor with Sowela Technical College. Woody was an active member of First Baptist Church of DeQuincy for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #279, the Blue Lodge and the Royal Arch Masons where he served as past Grand Sentinel of DeQuincy Chapter #79 Gordon C. Wood Council #38. He was also a member of the Habibi Shrine Temple, Ada Chapter #34 Order of the Eastern Star , Knights of Malta of Lake Charles as well as he received an honorary degree of the Order of Silver Trowel.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Mary Clifton Box; brothers Lynn G. Box and Hal T. Box and sister Vivian “Billie” Lee.
He is preceded in death by his sister Georgia J. Holt.
His service will be at 2:00, Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in First Baptist Church of DeQuincy under direction of Hixson Snider Funeral Home. Rev. Ron Walls will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home from 8 – 11 am on Tuesday and from noon until service time in the church.
