Jimmy Wayne Burgess, Sr., 69 of DeQuincy, went to be with Jesus on January 1, 2025 at his home in DeQuincy. He was born on September 16, 1955 in DeRidder, Louisiana, to Randall “Bob” and Neva Lee Burgess. He grew up in Singer, later moving to DeQuincy.
On November 2, 1972, he married the love of his life, Ethyl. They recently celebrated their 52nd Anniversary surrounded by their family. They had three children, Wilburn “Bull” Sellers, Jimmy Wayne Burgess, Jr. and Crystal Lee Sharp. Jimmy was a truck driver all of his life, hauling chemicals, part of oil rigs, but mainly logs, driving all over the country and into Canada a few times. Jimmy cherished his children and grandchildren and often spoke of taking them 4-wheeler riding and in his “Big Truck” a few times. Jimmy had a heart of gold and was a very humble man. Jimmy loved the Lord and faithfully attended Smokey Cove Pentecostal Church, always sitting on the front pew. He also developed a close friendship with his pastor, Reverend Clyde Clark, that was more than a pastor, he was a close friend. When he moved to DeQuincy, he was blessed with a great neighbor and friend, Dale Fontenot, that has helped him many times through the years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ethyl Burgess of DeQuincy; son, Jimmy Wayne Burgess, Jr. (Michelle) of Westlake; daughter, Crystal Lee Sharp (Louie) of Jena; three brothers, Winston Burgess (Sherry) and Marshall “Toad” Burgess (Polly) of Singer and Ronnie Burgess of Texas; one brother-in-law, Jessie Ray Franklin of DeQuincy; and two sisters-in-laws, Debbie Jo Rainwater of Arkansas and Darlene Rainwater of Georgia. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Brennen, Davin, Dustin, Kalley, Keely, Kourtney, Matthew, and Taylor; and two great granddaughters, Maddie and Sophia and expecting his first great grandson, Teddy, in a few months.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his oldest son, Wilburn “Bull” Sellers of Longville and his parents, Randall “Bob” and Neva Lee Burgess of Singer.
