DeQuincy—Charles “Smokey” Pettifield, 80, died March 2, 2011 in a local hospital. He was born in and lived in DeQuincy all his life, attended Eastern Heights Baptist Church in DeQuincy. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, BBQ's, shrimping, cooking, gardening and giving away most of his vegetables. He was most known for Smokey's Fast Stop. He loved his family and cooking lunch for them on Sunday.
Survivors include his wife, Beverley Pettifield of 51 years, daughters, Rebecka Pettifield of Longville, La., Sissie McClure of Lake Charles, Gina Ashworth, Tina McKelvey of DeQuincy, Pam Perkins of Arkansas, and G.G Truett of DeQuincy 24 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, sisters, Andra Riley of MN., Sandra Felice of LC., Linda Fiese of GA., Cynthia Means of Moss Bluff, brothers, Billy and Randy Pettifield of Lake Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Grace Pettifield, son, Butch Pettifield, daughter, Theresa Pettifield, sister, Joy Dlane Savage, brothers, Eugene Pettifield, Clyde Pettifield, Willis Pettifield, Dan Pettifield and Glenn Pettifield.
Services will be Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 2p.m. in Eastern Heights Baptist Church. Rev. Ray Bourque will officiate. Burial will be in Rigmaiden Cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, March 4 from 10a.m. until 9p.m. in the church and will resume on Saturday from 9a.m. until time of service.
