Ronnie Romolo Ortega, Sr., aka “Buddy”, age 78, died on August 31, 2015, after a brief illness. He looked at his family surrounding his bedside, smiled a great big smile, and set off on a fantastic fishing trip! Ronnie is preceded in death by his mother, Nicolasa Annie, father, Charles, son, Ronnie R. Ortega, Jr., aka “Little Buddy”, and two sisters, Frances and Gloria. Survived by daughter, Victoria, grandsons Francisco and Antonio, sister, Sylvia, nephews, Wayne (Debbie) and Dave, neice, Laura, great nephews, Dylon and Joaquin, and many cousins.
Ronnie was born in Walsenburg, Colorado and raised in Denver. In his early years, he was a master carpenter - an artisan of the highest order and a true journeyman. He was an avid reader of history particularly Native American history. He loved Native American art. He read scripture in English and in Spanish. In his retirement, his hobbies included fishing with grandchildren, working with nephews on repair projects, fixing things, collecting trinkets (lots of them), and watching old westerns.
He was a person of good cheer and had a smile for everyone he met. He had a quiet, self-assured grace that put everyone at ease. He will be greatly missed.
