Martha George Kowalski peacefully went home to the Lord on June 27, 2022.
She was born on Sept. 11, 1933 in New Brunswick, NJ, to Dr. John and Marie Dodd George. She
graduated from Highland Park High School in 1951 and from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1955,
where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi, Phi Upsilon Omicron, and Mortar Board. She
completed a dietetic internship at the University of Michigan, where she met and married
Walter Briney. After his graduation from medical school, they moved to Denver and raised
three sons. Martha earned an M.A. in Guidance and Counseling in 1979 at the University of
Northern Colorado. She was employed at the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Denver and later at
the Red Cross in Longmont as Assistant Administrator.
In 1982, she married Rev. Ronald Kowalski in Denver and joined him in the ministry at several
churches in Colorado, Canada and Ohio. After his retirement, they returned to live in Longmont.
Together, they served five interim pastorates at churches in Nebraska, Idaho and Montana.
Martha was a long-time member of Westview Presbyterian Church in Longmont, where she
served as Deacon, sang in the choir, was a volunteer in the food pantry and a member of the
Women’s Bible Circle. She was also a volunteer at Longmont United Hospital for many years.
She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Martha is survived by two sons: David (Nancy) Briney of Denver, CO and Andrew (Anne) Briney
of Boston, MA, as well as five grandchildren: Chloe, Sonja, Phoebe, Aidan and Basie. She was
preceded in death by her husband Ronald, son Daniel Briney, brother John W. George and her
parents.
A memorial service will be held at Westview Presbyterian Church, 1500 Hover St., Longmont, at
10 AM on Thursday, July 28.
