Marc Stevenson Sutherland was born in Mexico City, Mexico, where his father was studying abroad, on August 22, 1952, to Jack and Nancy Sutherland. Upon returning to the U.S., Marc grew up in Chicago with his sister, Jill. At age 18, he came to Colorado to ski, and loved it so much that he decided to stay. Here, he met his wife of 32 years, Paula, and together they raised their two sons, Erik and Nikolas.
Marc was an outdoors man, he loved to hunt, fish, ski, camp, golf, and do whatever outdoorsy thing Colorado had to offer. He worked for Mike Shaw Automotive for many years, starting as a mechanic and promoted to shop foreman. He was a gourmet chef, and his love for cooking touched many people’s hearts, and bellies. He could fix pretty much anything and was never shy to offer other people help. Marc was one of the most intelligent people you would have ever met, he knew something about everything, and highly valued education. He never failed to impress you with his unique vocabulary. Family was a major importance to him, and they would describe him as being smart, patient, funny, and above all kind. He was the nicest man.
Marc will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind, including, his parents, Jack and Nancy; wife, Paula; sons, Erik and Nikolas; sister, Jill and her family; a large extended family, and many friends. Marc will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church in Aurora. Marc will be laid to rest following the Mass and reception at Olinger Hampden Memorial Gardens.
The family asks that instead of flowers, donations are made to the American Cancer Society.
