Judy was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas. Her mother, Sally owned a knitting shop and her father, Bob was a sports reporter for the Kansas City Star Newspaper. After graduating from Topeka High School, Judy attended the University of Kansas and was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
With a BA in Education, Judy moved to Denver in 1960 and began her first teaching job. She soon married John Carlson and welcomed her daughter Karen in 1963 and Andrew followed in 1969. That same year the family moved to Wichita and Judy began designing and creating needlepoint kits. The late 70s brought a move to Conroe, TX and finally back to Denver in 1979. On June 14th, 1980, Judy married Duff Kerr in Denver, Colorado. Soon Judy purchased Panache Fine Craft Gallery and enjoyed running the gallery for many years. Judy’s loves and interests were many and varied.
She got her love of travel from her mother and traveled to Europe, Middle East, Asia and she took several African safaris. Judy was an animal lover and adopted several kittens from Denver Maxfund. Joe, her yellow-naped Amazon parrot was a long-time companion and the shop parrot at Panache. Democratic politics were an important part of Judy’s life and in her retirement years, she became an avid button collector and an active member of the Colorado State Button Society.
Judy is survived by her beloved husband, Duff Kerr and her children, Karen Carlson (Steve) and Andrew Carlson. She is also survived by her extended family: Ann Kerr-Money (David, grandsons Sean and Dylan), Thom Kerr (Jody, granddaughters Regan (Kenny) and Marlo), Kelsie Kerr (Matt, granddaughter Ella) and Liz Kerr (grandson Jonathan (Laura) and great-granddaughter Kamri).
