Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult things we can go through, so much more because it's your father.  No words can express what I am feeling right now and I'm sure only time can help me accept the fact.

He was not an emotional father/person and didn't hug and kiss, but he didn't have to because he showed his love differently, through his actions.

Dad was a very outgoing person. He loved to joke around and make people smile and laugh.  He enjoyed life and wanted everyone else to also.  He treated people with respect and didn't pass judgement on anyone.  He was a kind and generous man. He would do anything for anybody. 

Dad had a strong work ethic and taught us kids to work hard at whatever we do. He was a strong person. He could fix anything. He was a fighter when the chips were down, especially during his illness. He was a good father and taught me what was right and wrong. And I put him through the test on the wrong stuff that's for sure,

A time when we lived in Florida I picked some grapefruits from a tree on an Air Force officer's property and threw them at his house.  I threw about 5 of them until my dad stepped up and caught me red handed. He walked me home and when we got home he cut a branch off a bush and proceeded to whip me. He punished me many times when I deserved it. I remembered those times and learned from them. 

He stood by me in Germany when I was accused for many bad things. He didn't pass judgement on me or believe I did any of the things I was being accused of. That stayed with me my whole life. I was vindicated of those accusations.

He was with me during all my heart surgeries and procedures. He flew with me from all over the world and was at my bedside during those times. On one of those trips, I wanted French toast for breakfast real bad. I was around 7-8 years old. We didn't have eggs or milk, but he tried to make it for me anyway using regular toast. Just because he knew that's what I wanted.  He tried really hard to tell me it would be the same.  It wasn't. I look back at that many times and think he tried to make me happy.

Dad, I will never forget you. You taught me so much about life and about being a good person. I will continue to pattern my life after yours, and in times when I need help or a little advice, I will think back to all the good things you taught me. I know I will be fine. You are gone physically from this world, but your memory will live on forever.

We appreciated visiting with you and Maria.  May you continue to be remembered through all of those who were lucky enough to know you.  There will never be another like you.

Our paths only crossed a few times, but you were always jovial, warm and quick-witted.  What a rich life you had.  What a rich heritage you have left in those that are left who have those many fond memories of you.  Your infectious smile will be captured in all our hearts forever and perhaps the legacy you leave us with is to share that smile and act with kindness and love towards others as you have done throughout your life.

He is cackling that same giggle now in heaven and saying shhhhz! What a wonderful good natured, loving, kind father in law he was. His children and grandchildren will never forget him, as well as those blessed enough to have known him. Please keep sharing memories of stories about Hal- they are so precious to all of us!

I remember Hal with a smile on his face and a hammer in his hand. Hal and I helped Glenn finish the basement to his home. Hal made hard work easy, long days short and he had a solution to every problem. He was always smiling. He was a man's man. It was an honor and a privilege to have known him. Heaven is a better place now.

Hal, We will always cherish our visits with you. Your love for your family and your keen sense of humor were a shining example to all who had the privilege to know you.

Uncle Hal, you are my favorite uncle. We will miss you and your humor! I'm sure you are making everyone laugh in heaven.

Hal, you are the greatest father-in-law a girl could ever ask for.  I always felt welcome around you and in your home.  You never judge anyone, and you always kept an upbeat & positive attitude, no matter what was happening.  You are a kid at heart, and you always made everyone around you laugh.  I love you and will miss you.  I'll see you at the supper of the lamb in heaven!

Dad, you always supported and guided us kids through the years. Always encouraged us to do our best and follow our dreams. It will be hard not seeing you every week, but i know your spirit is always with me. I will be sure to take care of mom.  Love you alway.  Loriann

Opa had an infectious giggle. Not even counting the chicken fried steak incident at Montana Mike's (ask Oma), every single time he smiled, he made me smile too. He will be missed.
