Delores-1936
Delores, as the baby of the bunch, was a Daddy’s girl. She loved him so much it was hard for another man to steal her heart. However, a persistent, young man by the name of Lewis (Calvin) was determined to have her hand. After many trips to the Thurman porch asking her father for a chance to show his merit, a reluctant “yes” began a 65-year marital love story.
Calvin and Delores were brought together in holy matrimony on September 29, 1956. This commitment of love brought 3 children, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren with another on the way.
Being the youngest sibling, Delores grew up with many of her nieces and nephews; she was the cool, hip Auntie with the golden smile. She is known as the “Favorite Auntie” and made everyone feel like they were her favorite.
Delores was a beautiful woman both inside and out. She was a cutie and knew it! As the younger generation says today, “she had swag with class”. She was a fashion icon with her long flowing hairstyles, small waist skirts and jeans and who could forget her crossed leg, perfect posture pose with a little calf showing.
While she carried quite public persona, Delores was quick to put you in your place if you got out of line and boy did she have an exquisite vocabulary.
She was the pride of her husband Calvin, and he took her around the world like the prize she was, which he convinced Mr. Thurman he was worthy of.
She was all about family! Always providing an open door, a bed, and a meal or two…..or three for family members wanting to visit, transition to a new city, just driving through or even escaping their troubles. She made sure her family knew their value to her.
Delores loved her family, I mean loved her family. She would spend hours everyday talking with her sisters and brothers on the phone. Once they passed away, her nieces and nephews continued the tradition.
With all the love and attention she gave to everyone, her children felt as though they were her favorite as well. She was always there to encourage, advise, fill the gap, and give her opinion, sometimes whether asked for or not. She was our Superwoman, our Nurse, our Counselor, our Biggest fan, our Mentor but most of all our MOM.
Thanks for everything. Tell Dad we said hello and will continue to further your legacy down here until we meet again in glory.
At this time, Delores would not want us to be saddened by her departure from this world. She would say, my time here is done but rest assured, I have met The Father and have been reunited with my love. Continue to take care of my family down there.
Delores was the youngest daughter of the late Johnson Thurman and Edna (McGee) Thurman. She was the lovely wife of 65 Years to Lewis Calvin Moore; loving mother to Kelly Lynn Sanders, Thurman Lewis Moore and Anderson Calvin Moore; grandmother to Kelsey Delores Sanders, Anderson Malique Moore, Ashley Lynn Sanders, Aaron Lawrence Sanders, Na'ilah Quelynn Moore, Imani Niara Rose Moore, Arrington Omari Rashad Moore, Lawrence James Sanders and Jason Wesley Sanderson; great- grandmother to Jaslynn Brendolynn Sanders, McKenzie Lynn Sanders-Hawkins, Kingston James Watford and Dallas Lynn Watford; she was a baby sister, aunt, nurse, friend and mentor to many, many more.
A reception for Delores will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery, 8600 East Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
